Recently they had the pleasure of hosting Josh, a work experience student from Mountbatten School in Romsey, with aspirations to join the Royal Logistics Corps as a driver. Josh’s time with Meachers has been an invaluable opportunity for him to gain first-hand experience in the dynamic field of transport and logistics.
Josh’s Experience at Meachers
Josh’s week at Meachers has been diverse and enriching. He spent time shadowing experienced drivers, gaining insights into the daily operations and challenges of logistics on the road. This hands-on experience is crucial for anyone looking to pursue a career in logistics, providing a real-world understanding that goes beyond textbooks.
Josh’s experience didn’t stop there. He also had the opportunity to interact with engineers and mechanics, learning about the maintenance and technical aspects that keep the HGV fleet running efficiently. This holistic approach to work experience ensures that Josh has a well-rounded understanding of the logistics industry.
Office-Based Learning
To complement his field experience, Josh participated in office-based administrative work. He shadowed the traffic team, gaining insights into the planning and coordination that underpin successful logistics operations. This experience has provided Josh with a comprehensive view of the logistical planning process, enhancing his knowledge and preparing him for a future career in the Royal Logistics Corps.
Our Commitment to the Maritime Transport Careers Programme
Meachers Global Logistics is proud to be a part of the Maritime Transport Careers Programme (MTCP). This initiative aims to address the skills gap in the maritime and transport industries by promoting the wide variety of career opportunities available. Through Meachers involvement with the MTCP, they are dedicated to attracting new talent and supporting the professional development of individuals like Josh.
Recently, Meachers took part in the inaugural MTCP careers day at Southampton Port, where over 200 students from 18 schools, including Mountbatten School, came together to explore career opportunities in the maritime and transport sectors. The event was a great success, providing students with hands-on experiences and insights into the industry. The next MTCP careers day is scheduled for November this year, continuing efforts to inspire and educate the next generation of logistics professionals.
