Future Innovators Unite: Primary STEM Day at Portsmouth International Port
On 30th June 2025, the Maritime Transport Careers Programme (MTCP) proudly took part in the Primary STEM Day hosted at Portsmouth International Port. The event brought together hundreds of primary school pupils from across the Solent region for a day of hands-on learning, exploration, and inspiration focused on science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) within the maritime sector.
The day featured interactive exhibits, port tours, and engaging activities designed to spark curiosity and introduce young minds to the exciting world of maritime and transport careers. From building model boats to exploring sustainable sailing practices, students had the opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world applications.
Reflecting on the event, MTCP shared:-
“We had a fantastic day at Portsmouth International Port for their Primary STEM Day! It was brilliant to see so many young people excited about maritime careers and sustainability. Huge thanks to the port team and all the partners who made the day so impactful.”
Portsmouth International Port also highlighted the importance of the event:
“We’re proud to open our doors to the next generation and showcase the vital role ports play in our economy and environment. Events like these are key to building a future talent pipeline and inspiring young people to consider careers in maritime.”
MTCP’s involvement in events like this highlights its commitment to bridging the skills gap in the maritime and transport industries by engaging with students early and often. We look forward to continuing our work with Portsmouth International Port and other partners to build a brighter future for the sector.
